JASPER, Ala. (Community Journal) – Intermittent rain is expected to continue throughout central Alabama through Tuesday night as a weak disturbance and approaching cold front influence our weather.
The National Weather Service reports scattered showers due to a disturbance over Mississippi, with the greatest likelihood of rain along western and southern counties. Isolated thunderstorms may occur this afternoon.
The disturbance will move northward toward Tennessee and Arkansas, allowing a cold front to sweep eastward across the region. This will increase rain chances across northern and central parts of Alabama by late Tuesday afternoon into the night. Rainfall totals are expected to remain modest, generally under half an inch, with southern areas and regions east of Interstate 65 seeing little to no rain.
Looking ahead to the midweek, the passage of a weak front will bring modest rain chances (20-30%) Wednesday through Thursday, mainly affecting eastern areas. Temperatures will stay warm through Wednesday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, before a gradual cooling trend begins toward the end of the week.
By Thursday and Friday, highs will drop into the low 70s to low 80s, especially in higher terrain of east-central Alabama.
Despite the slight rainfall, drought conditions persist and are likely to worsen. Fire danger remains elevated, and outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
Winds will be generally easterly to southeasterly, blowing at 12-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Overall, the outlook emphasizes dry conditions returning next week but with ongoing drought concerns.
