MEDWAY, MA – An 83-year-old bicyclist died Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in Medway, according to police. Officers responded to the area of Milford and Green streets around 8 p.m. after a crash involving a bicycle was reported.
Police said the bicyclist, identified as Yuk Foo Chan of West Roxbury, was found with significant injuries and taken to Milford Regional Medical Center. He later died there.
Medway police described Chan as a familiar presence in town, saying he had been “a local fixture” for many years.
Police say crash happened on Milford Street around 7:50 p.m.
Investigators said the collision appears to have happened about 10 minutes before officers arrived. In the preliminary account, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Milford Street hit Chan as he rode his bicycle.
The area includes a busy intersection near the restaurant his family operates, which added to the attention surrounding the crash. Chan’s son told NewsCenter 5 that the family runs Medway Lotus, a Chinese restaurant located just feet from where he was struck.
Police have not said whether lighting, speed, visibility, or road conditions played a role. The crash remains under investigation.
Family business sits near the site of the collision
Chan’s death has drawn attention in the neighborhood because of his long connection to the area. Medway police said he was well known locally, and his family’s restaurant is close to the crash scene on Milford Street.
According to Chan’s son, Medway Lotus has operated near the spot where the collision happened, making the location especially personal for the family. The proximity of the business to the crash scene underscores how quickly the event unfolded in a familiar part of town.
Police have not released any additional information about whether Chan had been headed to or from the restaurant when he was hit.
Driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators
Medway police said the driver did not leave after the crash and remained at the scene. Investigators also said the driver was cooperative with their inquiry.

Milford Regional Medical Center treated Chan before he died
Emergency responders took Chan to Milford Regional Medical Center after officers found him badly hurt at the scene. Medical staff later pronounced him dead at the hospital, police said.
