MIAMI, FLORIDA – A Miami woman has shared a video of a nurse urging her to get up while she was still barely conscious after anesthesia, sparking a heated debate online. The TikTok user, known as Honey, posts as @honeyyamz4u, and her clip has drawn more than 254,000 views. Many viewers called the nurse rude, while others defended her approach. The hospital and the procedure were not identified.

Nurse Tells Groggy Patient to Open Her Eyes and Move to Chair

The video shows Honey in a recovery room with her eyes closed as two nurses help change her clothes. One nurse tells her to open her eyes because she is moving over to a chair. Her clip has picked up over 10,600 likes and about 2,200 comments.

The same nurse then holds Honey’s head upright and repeatedly tells her to keep it up. Honey, still groggy and confused, appears uncomfortable and resists getting out of bed. She had not yet fully regained awareness after the procedure.

Nurse Says Walking Will Help Ease Stomach Pain From Trapped Air

After Honey pushed back, the nurse said she was not going to fight with her and briefly raised the bed rail. When Honey sat up again, the nurse explained she needed to sit in the chair because lying down would make her stomach hurt.

The nurse said there was air inside that needed to move. Honey eventually walked to the chair with assistance. After some abdominal procedures, gas used during surgery can cause discomfort, and moving around is often encouraged to help relieve it.

Viewers Accuse Nurse of Rudeness and Racial Bias

Many commenters said the nurse was rude, with one urging Honey to report her. Some viewers argued that the way the nurse treated her reflected racial bias in health care. Several said she deserved more patience while still under the effects of anesthesia.

One commenter said medical staff too often assume Black women are exaggerating their pain or symptoms. That concern has been raised repeatedly in broader discussions about patient care.

Some Defend Nurse as Patient Has Yet to Address Incident

Not everyone agreed the nurse was out of line. One viewer argued that nurses deal with difficult patients all day and may have believed Honey was exaggerating how groggy she felt. Supporters noted that getting patients up after surgery is often part of standard recovery.

Honey has not publicly addressed the interaction beyond the video. A follow-up clip only showed earlier footage of her partner trying to wake her in the room. It is unclear whether she filed a complaint with the hospital.
