MICHIGAN – A Michigan mother has gone viral after packing homemade tamales for neighbors who allegedly called Immigration and Customs Enforcement on her family. Her daughter, Andrea, shared the moment on TikTok under the handle @andgonzo3, saying her mom chose to respond with kindness instead of anger. The video has drawn more than 3 million views and 500,000 likes. Viewers are split between praising her forgiveness and blasting the neighbors.
Mom Packs Tamales From Large Pot for Neighbors Who Requested Them
The clip shows Andrea’s mother in the kitchen next to a big pot of tamales, a traditional Mexican dish made with corn dough. She places several wrapped tamales on a plate and packs them into two plastic bags.
She then heads outside to deliver them while Andrea follows with the camera. The video ends before showing the neighbors receiving the food. Andrea described the goal as killing them with kindness.
Neighbors Allegedly Admitted Calling ICE Before Asking for Tamales
According to Andrea, the neighbors personally admitted to calling ICE on her family. Even so, they later asked her mother to save them some tamales the next time she made a batch. It is not clear when the neighbors allegedly contacted ICE or what followed.
Her mom was already planning to cook tamales that weekend and promised to set some aside. She kept that promise despite what had allegedly happened. The neighbors’ identities and their side of the story have not been shared.
Viewers Praise Mom’s Big Heart and Slam Neighbors
Many viewers admired the mother’s kindness, with some calling her pure-hearted and a living example of her faith. Others described Hispanic moms as some of the most caring people around. One commenter said she showed exactly what Christian faith calls people to be.
Several commenters had harsh words for the neighbors, calling it evil to report the family and then ask for food. Some worried the neighbors might throw the tamales away, while one asked whether such forgiveness only invites more mistreatment.
Daughter Says Faith and Oaxacan Roots Guide Mom’s Forgiveness
As the video spread, Andrea responded to viewers who accused her mom of pick-me behavior. She explained that her mother is deeply Catholic and believes people can change through love, forgiveness, and good example. She said her mom refuses to let other people’s actions change who she is.
Andrea said the family is Oaxacan and was raised with the teachings of Indigenous grandparents who taught them not to carry hatred, even toward people who hurt them. She stressed that the gesture did not mean her mom approved of what the neighbors allegedly did. Andrea added that her aunt would love to invite viewers over for tamales someday.
