PORTLAND, OR – TriMet Transit Police arrested 14 people Monday during a high-visibility public safety operation near a transit station in Northeast Portland, according to authorities. The four-hour mission took place Tuesday night at the station near NE 122nd Avenue and East Burnside Street.

Officials said the operation was designed to address drug activity and other safety concerns along transit corridors in Northeast Portland. It also led to 19 code violations, five traffic stops and one transit exclusion, which bars a person from entering TriMet property.

Four arrests included fentanyl and methamphetamine delivery charges

Four of the people arrested are facing charges of delivering a controlled substance involving fentanyl and methamphetamine, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities did not immediately release the names of the people arrested or provide additional details about the specific allegations.

The rest of the arrests were not described in the same level of detail in the information released by officials. The operation was presented as part of a broader enforcement effort rather than a single-case investigation tied to one person or incident.

Sheriff’s office says it leads TriMet Transit Police

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, which leads TriMet Transit Police, coordinated the mission as part of its Enhanced Public Safety Initiative. Officials said that effort is intended to crack down on drug activity and other safety issues around transit in Northeast Portland and elsewhere in the system.

By placing transit police, county personnel and partner agencies in one operation, the sheriff’s office said it aimed to increase visibility and enforcement at a busy transportation location. The agency did not say whether the operation was prompted by a specific complaint, tip or recent incident at the station.

Multiple agencies joined the four-hour enforcement effort

The operation included TriMet Transit Police, the Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, the sheriff’s office Corrections Transport Unit and its Airborne Law Enforcement Support Team. That mix of units gave the mission both ground and air support, according to the agencies involved.

Authorities did not say how many officers participated or how the work was divided among the agencies. Even so, the coordination signals that the station and surrounding area were being monitored from several angles at once during the evening operation.

Code violations, traffic stops and a transit exclusion followed

Beyond the arrests, officials reported 19 code violations and five traffic stops during the sweep. Those results suggest the operation was not limited to making custody arrests, but also focused on citations and other enforcement steps tied to safety and compliance.

One person was also issued a transit exclusion, meaning they are barred from TriMet property. TriMet and the sheriff’s office did not provide further information about the person subject to that order or what led to the exclusion.

Operation fits broader transit corridor crackdown in Northeast Portland

Officials described the mission as part of a larger public safety push in Northeast Portland and along transit corridors. The emphasis on visible enforcement reflects continuing concern about drug activity and other problems near transit stops and stations in the area.

The effort also came after another recent enforcement action in the region, when six people were cited in a five-hour human trafficking sting in the Milwaukie area. While the two operations were separate, both show local agencies continuing targeted work in and around transit-linked locations.
